Why Peru?

The decision to focus the organization’s efforts on Peru was never in doubt as Daniel and Irma were married in Peru in 1974 and lived there for a few years before returning to the USA. They have family and friends there, as Irma hails from Peru. Their connections and love of their country are why the organization focused on transforming the lives of impoverished students and orphans in Peru.

Peru at a Glance

Peru is a nation of breathtaking landscapes, hospitable people, and diverse natural wonders, from fertile valleys to the Amazon jungle to the soaring Andes and haunting deserts. Within its rich tapestries, one can experience diverse wildlife, cultures, music, dances, and mesmerizing food. It is a country blessed in many ways with abundance and richness truly unique to South America. However, the reality is that, like many nations across the world, it has its share of socio-economic challenges. One of these hurdles is a lack of financial resources for hard-working students to pursue college-level technical education. Because of this need, many students who could have done so much more will end up living their lives in poverty. Our founders and The Last Shall Be First Scholarships have been transforming lives since 2005 and, in their own way, adding to the richness of this land.
